An CALMAT Leadership Ph.D. program

CALMAT envisions an new type of Ph.D. program

"CALMAT Leadership Doctorate" program that enroll highly achieving leadership in the society after they've reduced their professional workload and plain to immerse themselves into learning, contemplating, discussion, discovery, disseminate, writing, teaching and the love of knowledge.

A truly a degree for the love of knowledge, the program is 3-5 years of intensive studying, discussion, research in a field that the doctorate candidate has build a long track record of accomplishment, such as in technology, management, public policy, leadership, arts, etc.

the CALMAT doctorate program is design to be intensive yet flexible.  Each student has to plan with their advisor a full load of scholarly activities (> 20 hours a week), they are expected to take at least one class per semester in CALMAT, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Santa Clara, UC Santa Cruz or other approved campuses.  Each students should deliver at least once per semester, it can be an internal conference on their findings, or an open conference, a class, a lecture.

CALMAT envisions the program is complete free based upon donation and no tuition charged.

Hopefully we can start this soon.

From Democracy and Science to Management and Technology

In CAL M&T, we are not only education the global technology leaders of tomorrow.  We cultivate leaders, period. The reason we named the university Management and Technology, not only because it is at the heart of the Silicon Valley, not only because it is the most exciting fields of study in our times, not only because the studies lead to best-paying jobs.  The reason we put management and technology in our name is, they are the tools to better the world.  The effective, efficient, transparent management is the embodiment of true democracy.   The technology is the transformed, distilled science that have actual impact on humanity.  So even though most classes of CAL M&T feel like it is directly to aid the career of the students in the global connected high-tech industry, the true calling of CAL M&T and Calmates are much grander, much heavier and much nobler.   Calmates are called upon to change the world, not only with empty passion, but with the most powerful tools known to us, management and technology.

Changing of the Guards

Two of major Calmates, JC and CW, are going to be assigned to Taiwan to focus on Asia operations, starting March 1.  Although they are going to be part of the CALMAT team, their important in-person functions will have to be re-assigned.  They have been the primary force of moving the CALMAT forward. Will be a difficult transaction, but we will be fine.
