More and more learning resources are going "Open Source"
Including http://www.flatworldknowledge.com/ that has many peer reviewed textbooks free
Merlot.org is another source generated by California State University
http://diyubook.com/
I used the safari ebook for programming and technology classes. Also use the iTuneU's material on Financial Markets with Yale's Robert Shiller.
Don't forget there are full courses on youtube.com

From Democracy and Science to Management and Technology
In CAL M&T, we are not only education the global technology leaders of tomorrow. We cultivate leaders, period. The reason we named the university Management and Technology, not only because it is at the heart of the Silicon Valley, not only because it is the most exciting fields of study in our times, not only because the studies lead to best-paying jobs. The reason we put management and technology in our name is, they are the tools to better the world. The effective, efficient, transparent management is the embodiment of true democracy. The technology is the transformed, distilled science that have actual impact on humanity. So even though most classes of CAL M&T feel like it is directly to aid the career of the students in the global connected high-tech industry, the true calling of CAL M&T and Calmates are much grander, much heavier and much nobler. Calmates are called upon to change the world, not only with empty passion, but with the most powerful tools known to us, management and technology.

Changing of the Guards
Two of major Calmates, JC and CW, are going to be assigned to Taiwan to focus on Asia operations, starting March 1. Although they are going to be part of the CALMAT team, their important in-person functions will have to be re-assigned. They have been the primary force of moving the CALMAT forward. Will be a difficult transaction, but we will be fine.

What kind of high tech leaders should CAL M&T cultivate?
The article "Google’s Quest to Build a Better Boss" at http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/13/business/13hire.html?_r=1&src=me&ref=general

Open is the name of the future
Many people foolishly believe if they keep everything, no matter how limited, to themselves, they will be better off. I pity them. They worries about other people will know what they know, get what they have... they live in fear and a small, dark world.
The future is open. Open source, free... Look at youtube, bible, criagslists, wikipedia, google, facebook, linux. Or Open University (http://www.open.ac.uk/) MIT open courseware (http://ocw.mit.edu/). The good ones keep thing open, the best ones give things away, free. At the end, they get the most. CALMAT should learn from this.

Smooth sailing with no end in sights
CALMAT is moving smooth forward, but the future is still everything but certain.
Moved in to the San Jose 22 miles building in Sep. It is a good move. the classes are filled, sometime as many as 30 students.
Discussing with J. T. on $260 investment.
Working on contract with newsforchinese on an adv partnership.
Visit the Taiwan chamber of commerce and promoted the CALMAT program.
Sooner or later, have to talk to institute like Berkery Noyes for investment or acquisition. see http://chronicle.com/article/Low-Grades-on-Education/123872
The early storm has passed. During the storm, the focus was clear: survival. Now is not as intensive but no less perilous.
